Hello, I’m Linda Maki, Owner, Designer & Sewist at “LÁNYOS HANDMADE”, also the sewing blogger behind the blog “Nice dress! Thanks, I made it!!” and the sewing challenge #designindecember. It’s just all about creating with a sewing machine!
I think my love of sewing might be genetic? My Aunt was trained as a seamstress in Hungary before she and my Mom came to Canada. My Aunt made clothes for herself and others with her self-drafted sewing patterns. My mother always had the sewing machine out for mending or sewing new projects. Mom encouraged me to sew at a young age. I was in awe of their talents. I am honoured to have inherited my Aunt’s Singer 15-88 treadle and some of her vintage sewing tools. I am also over-the-moon that my Mom has given me her vintage Ford deLuxe!
Sewing is my time. All I want to do is create another project. I started my sewing blog “Nice dress! Thanks, I made it!!” in November 2013 and it has been feeding my addiction ever since! My Ready-to-Wear Fast started in 2015 and has continued to this day. Why waste money on store-bought ready-to-wear? I have found it lacking in quality and workmanship, and sadly over priced for what you get, and more importantly, where were the materials and the labour sourced?
I stock “Lányos Handmade” with 100% Handmade items made with vegan, sustainable, up cycled and repurposed materials, usually on one of my many rescued-from-the-landfill Vintage Sewing Machines - Marika my Ford deLuxe, Winnie my Singer 221 Featherweight, Amber my Singer 421G, Barbie my Singer 500 and Ilona my Singer 15-88 treadle! I love the challenge of taking a found fabric, zipper or leather coat and repurposing it into something different, beautiful and loved!
I thrive on designing and making unique handbags and the sewing patterns that create them!
Browse my Collections, new Handbags or accessories or PDF sewing patterns are always being added. If you wish something custom made, you can browse through my "Custom made options" pages in the side menu for ideas.
Perhaps one of my unique 100% Handmade items will appeal to you. If you see a style or fabric you love but want a custom Handbag, contact me and let’s see what we can create together ... just for you!!
If you prefer Sew-It-Yourself, then take a browse through my PDF sewing patterns. I love when a fellow sewist discovers one of my PDF sewing patterns is just what he/she is looking for! My collection of PDF sewing patterns will only grow and grow as I make bags, etc. for custom orders, and I aim to make a sewing pattern for every style of wallet, bag, etc. I make!
