A PDF SEWING PATTERN for the Tessa II © Bag, a fully lined crossbody bag with a top zipper closure, and 5 strap and 5 pocket options. There are TWO sizes bundled in this pattern – one large enough for a TABLET 10″ wide x 11” tall (25 cm x 28 cm) and one the perfect size for a CELL PHONE and more, 6″ wide x 9” tall (15 cm x 23 cm).
You have lots of options with this pattern! Sew it as a “beginner” or “quick” project for upcoming Markets, choosing between the two sizes available, or choose your own features, and learn techniques as you sew, to make your own style of Bag! There are detailed instructions and photographs throughout, including instructions for:
- perfect zipper tab corners;
- perfect corners with one zipper tab and one “bent end” zipper;
- 5 strap styles;
- 5 pocket styles (Magnetic Snap Pockets, Zipper Pockets with Zipper Overlays, Slip Pockets, Zipper Pockets and 6 to 12 Vertical Card Slot Pockets).
Way too many features to put in ONE bag … can you choose just a few?
I sew my Tessa Bags on my heavy duty domestic sewing machines, not industrial machines. I have a Janome HD3000, a Janome MC8200QCP SE and a couple of vintage Singers, a 500 and a 421G. For some Tessas, I sewed through 2 layers of cotton & lightweight interfacing and 4 layers of a cork or 0.7 mm vinyl. For others, I sewed through 6 layers of cotton with lightweight interfacing. Thickness will depend on materials used and which features you choose!
This is a Beginner/Adventurous Beginner pattern, depending upon which features you choose. Learn new skills as you master every feature! Pattern Instructions include both metric and imperial units. There are 56 pages of detailed instructions with over 140 large colour photos to help you construct your Tessa. All pattern pieces are included too!
Included in the pattern:
– all Pattern Pieces for both sizes, including all the rectangle and strap pieces, with all formats: Letter, A4, A0 copy shop and Projector files
– Cutting Charts for both sizes
– Pattern Piece Labels for both sizes
– Gallery Photos with each pattern piece marked
– SVG/PNG cutting machine files for an extra cost. Larger pieces require a 12″ x 24″ cutting mat. Please choose this option before adding to cart!
Please note that I am not an IT person and have consulted with an IT person on how to prepare & upload, download, unzip and open SVG/PNG files in cutting machine programs. If you are having difficulty with your system, please contact a professional.

MATERIALS REQUIRED FOR THE TABLET SIZED BAG:
* MATERIALS – 1 yard or 1 metre (lightweight denim, quilting cotton, upholstery fabric, cork or 0.7 mm vinyl) for the Outer Layers
* MATERIALS – 1 yard or 1 metre (quilting cotton or Water Proof Fabric) for the Lining Layers
* LIGHTWEIGHT FUSIBLE WOVEN INTERFACING for Lining Layers, double if using lightweight denim or quilting cotton for Outer Layers – 1 yard or 1 metre (like PELLON SF101 SHAPE FLEX or VLIESELINE G700)
* OPTIONAL: FUSIBLE FLEECE or FOAM for Front and Back only – 1/4 yard or 0.25 metre (like PELLON FLEX-FOAM or BY ANNIES SOFT & STABLE)
* #5 zipper tape, over 9” (23 cm) of zipper teeth, and a zipper pull, or a ready made zipper 12” (30 cm) long
* optional additional #5 zipper tape, over 7” (18 cm) of zipper teeth, and a zipper pull, or a ready made zipper 9” (23 cm) long
* optional additional #5 zipper tape, over 7” (18 cm) of zipper teeth, and a zipper pull, or a ready made zipper 9” (23 cm) long
* optional one 3/4” (18 mm) magnetic snap
* Two 1” (2.5 cm) swivel hooks
* One 1” (2.5 cm) slider
* Two 1” (2.5 cm) D-Rings
ADDITIONAL MATERIALS & HARDWARE FOR OTHER STRAP OPTIONS:
* 50” – 60” (127 cm – 152 cm) webbing for the “Webbing Strap” option. Strap length is a personal preference.
* Two additional 1” (2.5 cm) rectangle rings OR Two additional 1” (2.5 cm) X-rings and 6 Chicago screws or Rivets
MATERIALS REQUIRED FOR THE CELL PHONE SIZED BAG:
Outer materials, as suggested above: 3/4 yard (0.75 metre)
Lining materials, as suggested above: 1/2 yard (0.5 metre)
Lightweight fusible woven interfacing, as suggested above: 1 1/2 yards (1.5 metres)
#5 zipper tape, over 5 1/2” (14 cm) of zipper teeth, and a zipper pull, or a ready made zipper 9” (23 cm) long
Optional one 3/4” (18 mm) magnetic snap
Two 1” (2.5 cm) swivel hooks
One 1” (2.5 cm) slider
Two 1” (2.5 cm) D-Rings
