Lányos Szia © Bag Sewing Pattern – YouTube, LET, A4, A0, Projector, some SVG/PNG
The Szia © Bag has a few options available for you! Sew it up with water proof or water resistant canvas, faux leather/vinyl, cork, interfaced quilting cotton, or other materials. Make it even more unique by choosing which parts of your Szia Bag will be made with your Accent materials. The Szia Bag has the option to sew it with an inner Small and/or Large Hanging Zipper Pocket(s), Inner Pleated Slip Pockets, and a Belt Style Strap in vinyl or cork, or a Short Shoulder Strap in WPC/WRC, webbing, or raw edge material. The Szia Bag holds so much, you will be happy that it also has a Key Holder Strap inside so you don’t have to hunt for your keys!
I sew my Szia Bags on any of my vintage Singers, 421G or 500, or my Janome HD3000 or MC8200QCP, both domestic sewing machines, not industrials. I try to make patterns and products that don’t require an industrial machine. The thickest layers sewn for the Szia Bag are possibly 6 layers of a combination of exterior and lining materials, interfacing and/or stabilizer. I recommend choosing lightweight materials, whether vinyl, water proof/water resistant canvas, or interfaced quilting cotton for the front and back pleated panels. Test your machine with scraps to see if it can sew through your chosen layers.
This is an Adventurous Beginner/Intermediate pattern. Your Szia Bag will have a finished size of approximately 12 1/2” wide at the top x 12” high x 5” deep (31.7 cm x 30.4 cm x 12.7 cm). Measurements are in inches and cm/mm throughout the Pattern.

All Pattern Pieces are included, including Strap and rectangle pieces, in these formats: SVG/PNG files for the Strap Anchors, A0 and Projector, US Letter and A4 Note: Pattern Pieces are not provided for the Optional Bag Base. Measurements are provided for the Optional Bag Base in the Pattern Instructions and the Material Cutting Table.
MATERIALS REQUIRED:
• Exterior Material (faux leather/vinyl, cork, waterproof or water resistant canvas, or home decor fabric): 1 yard (1 metre).
• Exterior Accent Material (lightweight faux leather/vinyl, cork, waterproof or water resistant canvas, home decor fabric, or interfaced quilting cotton): 3/4 yard (0.75 metres).
• Lining/Accent Material (interfaced quilting cotton, lightweight waterproof or water resistant canvas, or lightweight Ripstop): 1 1/4 yards (1.25 metres).
• For interfacing Lining/Accent Material or other lightweight materials (lightweight woven interfacing: STIFI (120gsm), Pellon SF101 Shape Flex, Vlieseline G700, Pellon Decovil Light, or EB Fuse Light): 2 yards (2 metres).
• For reinforcing Strap Anchors, Strap, and Rivets or Chicago Screws (heavyweight woven interfacing: Pellon Decovil Heavy, Pellon Peltex): 1/2 yard (0.5 metre).
* OPTIONAL: If your Exterior Materials are too lightweight, or you would like more structure, you might also want to sew a Bag Base with your Lining/Accent material and a heavyweight woven stabilizer, like Pelllon Decovil Heavy, Pellon Peltex, Template Plastic, or a Cutting Machine Mat.
• OPTIONAL: 2” (5 cm) wide Webbing approximately 20” (50.8 cm) to 25” (63.5 cm) long for the optional Short Shoulder Strap. Measure to ensure a comfortable length.
HARDWARE REQUIRED:
FOR BAG, OPTIONAL ZIPPER POCKETS and KEY HOLDER STRAP:
* 1 x Swivel Hook, 1” (2.5 cm) wide for Key Holder Strap
* #5 Zipper Tape 36 1/2” (92.7 cm) long total – Do not cut Zipper Tape until you have decided on your pocket options:
ONE length of 15” (38.1 cm) long with ONE Zipper Pull for Recessed Zipper Facing
ONE length of 11 1/2” (29.2 cm) long with ONE Zipper Pull for Large Hanging Zipper Pocket
ONE length of 10” (25.4 cm) long with ONE Zipper Pull for Small Hanging Zipper Pocket
* 2 x Gate Rings, no smaller than 1 1/2” (3.8 cm), 2 x Rectangle Rings, 1″ (2.5 cm) OR 2 x X-Rings, 1” (2.5 cm)
* Optional: ONE Zipper End, FOUR Purse Feet, and/or 14 Rivets or Chicago Screws.
OPTION ONE: BELT STYLE STRAP:
* 1 x Buckle, 1” (2.5 cm) wide
* 21 x Rivets or Chicago Screws. (I used 3/8” x 1/4” long Chicago Screws, but it all depends on the thickness of your materials.)
* Optional: 1 x Strap End, 1” (2.5 cm) wide
OPTION TWO: SHORT SHOULDER STRAP:
* 20 x Rivets or Chicago Screws. (I used 3/8” x 1/4” long Chicago Screws, but it all depends on the thickness of your materials.)
