This is a PDF SEWING PATTERN for the Swish © Messenger Bag II, a fully lined shoulder bag with a bag flap covering the open bag compartment. Inside the bag is an optional slip pocket. Measurements are 13″ wide 9″ tall 3″ deep (33 cm 23 cm 7.6 cm) with a 2″ (5 cm) strap.
I sew my Swish Messenger Bags on my Janome HD3000 and my Janome MC8200QCP, both domestic machines, not industrials. I try to make products that don't need an industrial machine. Test your machine with scraps to see if it can sew through your layers.
This is a BEGINNER sewing pattern for sewists of any age! A fun pattern that’s easy to follow! It also requires NO hardware and the bag flap can be embellished, or not, as you please. You’re the designer! The pattern’s tutorial-style instructions are detailed on 6 pages. Use the detailed instructions to measure out your FOUR pattern pieces. Instructions are in both metric and imperial units.
Materials for your Swish Messenger Bag II:
- Outer fabric: 1 yard (1 metre) of Cotton Fabric for the bag outer layer, flap and strap
- Lining fabric: 1 yard (1 metre) of a different Cotton Fabric for the bag lining layer, slip pocket, flap
- Interfacing: 2 yards or 2 metres of interfacing like Pellon Fusible Shapeflex SF101 or Pellon Fusible Fleece 987F
